„HANEL ISO 14356 is the title the young artist gives
to her work. With this, Lee alludes to the name she
has given herself, „Hanel,“ and the ISO standard
for the synthetic substance silicone. Through the
titling, the artist creates an alter ego that has shed
its ephemeral corporeality and earthly roots. Her
second self in silicone is distorted and appears
to have even duplicated. [...] With subtlety and
delicacy, Un-Zu Ha-Nul Lee introduces the question
of the role of the female body into her installation.
Her work thus navigates within the relationships
that arise between bodies and their images, their
spirits. In her interpretation, the images or her alter
ego have distanced themselves from reality. They
become independent beings and lift themselves off
the exhibition floor. And even though they seem to be
so distanced from reality, they serve as a reminder of
the shell-like nature, superficiality, and vulnerability
of the female bodies in our reality.“
